Suburban RED
In this project, as a way of continually blurring the line between narrative film and documentary, the character himself is making a film and using miniatures just as I did in the making of the film. In a sense, the film contains a "making of..." film as well, illustrating the way practical effects might have been created in the times before computer effects.
As a child my mother was always active with her hands, cleaning dishes, sorting the beans, mending clothing, and as a child it was her movements and sounds that helped to ground me to reality. I wanted to do the same for her and work with my tools cutting paper and cardboard and snipping wires and clicking photographs around her, which seemed to soothe her as she'd fall asleep to the familiar and repetitive sounds.
