Suburban RED
Suburban RED - mixed genre experimental narrative video/PROCESS
Suburban RED is a film that I made while caring for my elderly mother. The idea for this project was to have something to do in the home that would be a form of self-care while I did home-care. Being that I was now living in suburban Sunnyvale, California, where I grew up, I wanted to create a project that reflected some of my experiences with the place while also creating images that signified the Chicano experience as I knew it.
The project became sort of an immersive experience where I was not only able to build miniatures and puppets and various other practical special effects while in the living room with my mother, but also use this bedroom (which my grandmother had died in the 1970s) as film set along with many of the rooms in the house.
