Suburban RED
This nebula effect was achieved using various liquid solutions including condensed milk, hydrogen peroxide, liquid soap and food coloring placed and mixed on a sheet of glass. The liquids slowly blend and slide and expand on the surface of the glass and is photographed up close with a macro lens. The shape that the nebula becomes is somewhat accidental and takes up to a half hour to come about. In the final image there is movement that is achieved through changing the speed of the shot as the dripping and expanding liquid moves very slowly - being made up mostly of the thick condensed milk.
The final effect contains what might be gasses and space dust or the making of stars. These practical effects were done with a similar process as was done in the film 2001: A Space Odyssey for nebula-like scenes.
