Suburban RED
There is a line, I suppose, between an artist's self portrait and the morbid preoccupation with the self. In many ways I see Suburban RED as a fractured self portrait. In this still from the film the character, portrayed by me, is creating artwork that includes images of himself and the story that he is a part of. The artwork spills from the page to the walls. The artist is the artwork, within the artwork, creating artwork. The artist surrounds himself with himself. I was unabashedly aware of this echo chamber and claustrophobic self identity. The rigor of this kind of continually returning to the self would serve to exorcise this type of preoccupation - getting it out of the system by getting it into the system.
